Does a laptop battery explode if it gets too hot?

Post by Gsusangrey »

Hello, may I know if laptop batteries simply leak or if they explode when they get too hot?

It is possible, yes, and a laptop battery may explode when it becomes too hot, particularly when it is damaged or when it is charged and/or when exposed to high heat. Thermal runaway can cause lithium-ion batteries to swell, leak or ignite. Never cover or plug vents, use spoiled batteries, or use your laptop in the direct sunlight.

Yes, overheating can cause a laptop battery to explode due to thermal runaway, especially in damaged or faulty lithium-ion batteries. To prevent this, avoid extreme heat, use manufacturer-approved chargers, and replace swollen batteries immediately.

Yes, extreme overheating can cause a laptop battery to swell, leak, or even explode due to thermal runaway—especially in damaged or faulty lithium-ion batteries. Proper ventilation and avoiding excessive heat exposure reduce risks. If the battery bulges, replace it immediately.
